I left over 35 years go. Currently I live in Canada.
Hope they change their attitude towards tourists; it is an important revenue to the country.
Thanks
HanyHanyEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01588059368147167705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13526182.post-29566201282292249562008-05-26T00:25:00.000-07:002008-05-26T00:25:00.000-07:00I spent 2 weeks in Egypt in 2004 before joining an...I spent 2 weeks in Egypt in 2004 before joining an Aussie yacht in Abu Tig. Unfortunately, I totally agree everything you have said.
I absolutely loved the country and the experience of travelling solo through Cairo, onto Aswan, Luxor and then onto the coast.
What I hated was the thought that each time I left my hotel to walk the streets in the hope of immersing myself in the local culture, I was constantly confronted with the same touts that you have described.
I would love to go back to Egypt one day but the thought of the hassles involved is always in the back of my mind.
Enjoying your blog. Keep up the entries.
Thanks
MarkAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13526182.post-83651981996728174922008-05-21T16:21:00.000-07:002008-05-21T16:21:00.000-07:00Ahh! I have been to Egypt many times and really only found a problem at The Pyramids. The Valley was easy to deal with by showing I knew more than they did - I then got respect and they became "friends". Those who spoil things have themselves been spoilt by seeing really easy money from some who know no better and care even less. It is natural in such a poor country that they keep trying. I am pleased it did not alter your opinion of the country - a wonderful place full of very friendly people and just a few ready to catch the unwary.
Brian Playfair, ScotlandAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
